Model A Only
This page applies primarily to Model A projects, not Model C projects, which can receive ticket funds directly and should get their own insurance.
Event insurance
Many events are covered by the General Liability insurance policy we added you to when you joined Raft. Certain events involving the following, however, must be added to our policy individually and are otherwise not covered:
- More than 500 people present at any one time (including co-sponsored fundraising events)
- Athletic activities or contests, not including golf or bowling (includes charity “walks” and “runs”)
- Water (i.e., pools or any other bodies of water)
- Animals
- Parades
- Carnivals, circuses, fairs, or festivals
- Powered or unpowered rides and amusement attractions (includes slides, climbing walls)
- Trampolines, bounce houses, rebounding equipment, inflatable amusement or sports devices, moon walks, or inflatable wrestling or combatant suits
- Weapons or firearms
In the event1 that you are hosting or co-hosting2 an event meeting any of these descriptors, please fill out this form.
Event waivers
In many of the above cases, our insurance will require that you make all event attendees fill out an online waiver before participating in the event. We will create a new form for each event, whenever it is required.
Ticketing platform options
If your event is completely free, feel free to use Open Collective3 or whatever you like. But if you plan to sell tickets, even by donation, please review the following requirements for ticketing platforms to work well with our systems:
- They must use Stripe as the payment processor
- They must have no platform fees (other than the Stripe fee, of course) paid by the event organizer (so either the attendees cover the fees or we pay a flat fee to use the platform - no per-ticket or per )
- The platform is listed below as pre-approved or you have reached out and gotten it approved by our team - nd had us connect our Stripe account
Stripe Revenue and Open Collective
Ticket revenues from Luma are imported to Open Collective once per week.
Stripe is highly preferred because we have a system in place for adding ticket revenue to project balances in a timely manner. When every project uses a different process, it slows things down for everyone.
Pre-approved ticketing platforms
Luma: We pay for the “Pro” plan - so that there is no platform fee, only a standard Stripe fee - and share it with our projects. Reach out and we will add you to our account.4
Private Events on Luma
When using our shared Luma account, we recommend setting your event to be “private” (i.e., only accessible by link) so that the various people that have subscribed to our Luma calendar when attending other projects’ events are not spammed with notifications. (Unless you want to invite them!)
Platforms that should also work:
- Ticketbud
- Eventbrite
We are happy for you to experiment with other platforms that you find that meet the above requirements!
Footnotes
-
Pun intended. ↩
-
Tabling at an event does not count as hosting. ↩
-
Note: there are bugs to watch out for on Open Collective, especially with paid events or events with a maximum number of attendees. Pleae be careful and test it out in advance! ↩
-
If you accidentally set up a paid event using your own Luma account, please invite team@raft.foundation to host the event ASAP, so we can ensure funds are routed to us and add it to our Luma “calendar.” Any funds received by another entity will need to be sent to Raft in a timely manner. ↩
